đźš’ Monday Night Training: The "Stair-Master" from Hell
Let’s be honest—nobody likes moving furniture up a flight of stairs. Now imagine that "furniture" weighs 250 lbs, is wearing full bunker gear, and is breathing air from a tank.
Welcome to Monday Night Training at Collegeville Fire Company!
When the temperature dropped and the wind started biting, we didn’t cancel. We just brought the grind inside. Our crews got creative, turning the firehouse into a tactical obstacle course to work on one of the most physically demanding (and critical) skills in the book: Moving a downed firefighter.
📉 The Ups and Downs
We drilled hard on 1, 2, and 3-person removal techniques. Whether it’s dragging a brother or sister up a flight of stairs or controlling a descent, the goal is always the same: Get them out fast, get them out safe.
• 1-Person: For when adrenaline is your only backup.
• 2-Person: The "dynamic duo" approach—coordination is key.
• 3-Person: Maximum efficiency, maximum muscle.

We also spent time reviewing the RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) Pack. Knowing exactly where it is on the truck is good; being able to deploy it blindfolded while your heart rate is 160 bpm is better. We drilled on location, deployment, and getting that air supply hook-up done in seconds.
The Verdict: We might not be winning any beauty contests after sweating through this one, but "Stair Day" beats "Leg Day" at the gym any time.
We adapt to the weather, we adapt our environment, and we train until we can’t get it wrong. Because when the alarm sounds in Collegeville, the cold won't stop us either.
Think you have what it takes to carry the load? Stop by the station any Monday night to see what we’re all about!
Thank you to FF Duncan for supplying us with the pictures
