One of Collegeville's finest for nearly two decades, Bob Whitman was remembered for his service and "constant desire to make others laugh."
Bob Whitman, a former Collegeville police officer and dedicated public servant, has died at the age of 86,
Whitman had fought a brave battle against pancreatic cancer.

A resident of Upper Providence Township at the time of his death, Whitman served the Collegeville area for nearly two decades from 1970 to 1987.

"His service to the greater Collegeville community was worthy of honor and remembrance.
A graduate of Collegeville-Trappe High School, Whitman served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Korea, and also served with the Trappe Ambulance as a crew member and driver, according to his obituary. He was a life member of Collegeville Fire Co. and Trappe Fire Co. as well.
He "will always be remembered for his sense of humor and his constant desire to make others laugh," his obituary reads.
He is survived by his wife, Doris, as well as his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many other loving family members and friends.
A memorial service will be held once the coronavirus mitigation measures allow for a public gathering.
Contributions in his name may be made to the Montgomery County SPCA: PO Box 222, Conshohocken, PA, 19428.
