| Collegeville emergency crews responded to several incidents during the severe storm on Monday night. The response began when strong winds struck the area, causing a power outage and triggering a fire alarm at 55 W. 4th Avenue at the Flag Factory Lofts. The alarm was found to have been caused by the loss of power.
As the storm continued, additional calls were received about a tree and wires down across the road on Chestnut Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues. Traffic cones and caution tape were used to secure the area until the situation was resolved and emergency units became available for new calls.
Shortly after, another report came in about a fallen tree and possible wires down on Glen Farms Drive, between 9th Avenue and 1st Avenue. Squad 34 responded to the incident and secured the area with cones and caution tape until fire police arrived on the scene. Units were then able to move on from this call as well.
The power outage also affected traffic lights along 2nd Avenue. Fire Police worked alongside Collegeville Police Department to set up generators to keep the traffic lights operating at several intersections, including 77 2nd Avenue, Freeland Drive and 2nd Avenue, Park Avenue and 2nd Avenue, and at the light near Wawa. Generators remained in use until normal power could be restored to the area.
