At 18:10 hours Station 34 and Ladder 77 were dispatched for a fire alarm at Columbia Cottage.
Assistant 34 arrived to find a water flow alarm and found water spaying out of the ceiling in a hallway of the facility. Staff had secured the water to part of the sprinkler system and Assistant 34 opened the main drain to drain out the rest of the water. Crews from Engine 34 and Ladder 77 started removing ceiling tiles to investigate the reason for the water leak. Crews found a ruptured sprinkler pipe that had rusted through and had a fairly large hole in it. Crews checked the the area of the ceiling for any other issues caused by the water. The hall way carpet contained most of the water and only minor water damage to a couple of patient's rooms that are adjacent to the hallway. All units returned at 1900 hours.
