Multiple Water Rescues on Schuykill River

August 5, 2018

Today may seem like a great day to be on the water, but unfortunately due to all of the recent rain the Schuylkill River and Perkiomen Creek are both hovering around flood stage. Please, stay away from these bodies of water until the water levels come down to normal.

Earlier today, the members of Collegeville Fire Company were dispatched to assist Black Rock Fire Company with a water rescue on the Schuylkill River in the area of Lock 60. Marine 34 launched and was able to rescue the trapped kayaker from under a bridge abutment. Reports then came in of a possible second victim which brought Marine 77 from Phoenixville Dive Unit out into the water. Both units were unable to locate a second person in the water. The second kayaker was located in the area of the canal a short time later. All boats were returned to shore and Collegeville went available around 12:46hrs. The Company responded with 9 personnel split up amongst Utility/ Marine 34, Utility/Marine 34-1, and Rescue 34.
