New Firehouse Capital Campaign

Neighbors, Friends & Supporters,

Shortly you should receive a letter from us asking you to participate in our Capital Campaign. We are grateful each year for the generous donations that you provide and we are hopeful that you can support us with our biggest campaign in the 125 year history of the Collegeville Fire Company.  For those who may not have donated before, no amount is too small and every bit helps, especially now as you will read about below.

We are actively working a project to replace our antiquated fire station. Our current facility is over 65 years old and is in a perpetual state of costly repair. At times, it is even unsafe for us to operate from. The useful life of this facility, according to the IRS, was ~30 years; which means it should have been replaced sometime in the 1980's. For those who have never been inside of our fire station, we have created the attached video where several of our members explain some of the issues with our current station and describe to you the importance of replacing it.

This project is long overdue and is many years in the making. Our Borough, and the Collegeville area as a whole, has seen incredible growth over the last decade or more. Our response area includes everything from major Commercial campuses, large retail centers, senior living facilities, Dormitories and Classroom Buildings at Ursinus College and numerous residential developments; with new construction happening constantly.

We feel it is time that the Collegeville Fire Company evolves with the area around us. This includes knocking down our current Station and replacing it with something that will allow us to safely and effectively continue providing first class Fire/Rescue services to our diverse and ever growing response area.

Thank you for your support
- The Officers and Firefighters of The Collegeville Fire Company

OUR PROBLEMS:

In addition to its glaring and expensive structural defficiencies, the current station, which was built in ~1950 cannot accommodate the size and diversity of Emergency Response equipment needed to provide quality Fire & Rescue services to our unique and ever growing response area. The Collegeville area as a whole is experiencing an incredible rate of growth over the last 10+ years and it has come time for Station 34 to grow in order to keep up with the area around us.

  • Equipment and Vehicle Storage Concerns (one vehicle currently stored outside)
  • Severely outdated & inadequate restroom, office, crew room and meeting areas
  • No accomodations for ADA
  • Lack of storage (had to add an external shed for storage)
  • Outdated and Inefficient HVAC & Electrical systems
  • Boiler is on the verge of failure
  • Large portion of the roof in dire need of replacement (approx ~$40k expense)
  • Flooding/leaking concerns during storm conditions
  • Building would not meet any modern day fire or building codes
  • Firefighter gear located very close to moving apparatus
  • Overall unreliability - A Fire Station should be reliable and counted upon to operate and have essential services in any weather situation.  The current station has an antiquated power system and inadequate capabilities to connect a backup generator for continued power.

SOLUTION: A brand new, modern fire station

We propose to demolish the existing structure and start from the ground up. These plans, and the costs associated with them are designed around providing the necessities for an efficient and effective fire station to service Collegeville Borough, portions of Upper/Lower Providence Twp, Trappe Borough and portions of Perkiomen Twp.  The Collegeville Fire Company is commiting $700,000 of its savings to the $1,800,000 project cost. We need your help in replenishing that savings to ensure we have adequate funding for ongoing operating costs for things such as equipment repairs, firefighting gear & tools, public outreach programs and more.

CFC IN OUR COMMUNITY

The Collegeville Fire Company is made up of 100% Volunteers, we are not paid to do what we do.  Our dedicated Volunteers love the area that we serve and belve that a Fire Station should be a point of pride for not only its members, but for the entire Community.  We frequently host various groups in our Station for demonstrations & fire prevention talks such as Scouting Groups, Youth Groups and school organizations.  Advances in Fire Prevention have led to drop offs in injury and death related from fire.

As Volunteers, we rely on our Community to support us and our Mission; which is to serve the Communty and ensure fast and adequate response to an Emergency.  Help Us Help You!
