Firefighters with Collegeville Station 34 and Trappe Station 77 are participating in a study conducted by Ursinus College's Heart Lab. The study focuses on the effect that over 50 lbs of firefighter personal protective equipment (PPE) has on their VO2 levels and the stress placed on their heart. One of the leading causes of death among firefighters is not the fire which they are fighting but rather the unseen danger of cardiac arrest.
